The lagoon of Walvis Bay is not only a natural scenic wonderland, but
it is also the largest single area of shallow sheltered water on the west
coast of southern Africa.
It is world famous for the great numbers and concentrations of coastal birds - 31 species in all - including about 23 000 greater and 30 000 lesser flamingoes, large numbers of pelicans and other coastal birds. The lagoon is of prime ornithological importance and is also a very popular board sailing venue/ |
